Moon Prairie Winter Trail

The Moon Prairie Winter Trail is a 6 mile loop on a couple Forest Service roads that no one plows in the winter so what the heck… they are now x-country skiing or snow shoe trails!

Driving

– Drive up Dead Indian Memorial Road towards Howard Prairie Lake. Pass the right turn to Howard Prairie and you are now heading towards Lake of the Woods. However, before you get there you will see Elk Creek Road on your left and in the winter that stops getting plowed and becomes Snow Parking. So turn left there.

Parking

– Hope the snow plows have been there. It’s a snowy lot. Also, hope you remembered your Sno-park pass ’cause you should have it.

The Adventure

– From your car run across Dead Indian Memorial Road to the trailhead. Remember the rule of 3 Right Turns. At the first 3 intersections, always turn right. This will send you on a mild uphill section into a spectacular forested area.

After about 3 miles you will start to close your loop by turning left at all future intersections. This is another trail where the Trail Video is super helpful. Is there anything Trail Videos can’t do?
