Hill Cemetery

The Hill Cemetery is an occasionally maintained historic cemetery at Emigrant Lake.

Driving

– From Ashland Plaza head south on Siskiyou towards the University. Turn left on Ashland Street and take that across Interstate 5 where is curves to the right, passes Dead Indian Memorial Road, and the golf course. The Emigrant Lake Recreation area sign appears formally to your left and… drive past it! The next gravel road on your left – maybe 300 yards – is your route to the Cemetery. Take that left and this dead ends into the cemetery.

Parking

– 10 dirt spots that are never full.

The Adventure

– It is a tiny cemetery but with all the weeds, it is kind of an adventure trying to spot the oldest grave – or count the number of dead Indian fighters. If I knew more about history I could tell you a bunch of stories. What I do know is that there are two information boards right at the parking lot, so you can learn something from people who know something.  And the peninsula into the lake with a tree on it?  Best cemetery-adgecent picnic spot in town!

The Emigrant Lake trail passes right by so you can go for a little stroll around the lake as well. The lake is better when there is water in it of course.
