Wasabi

The Wasabi Trail is a 3/4 mile downhill only “bailout” mountain bike trail off of the Lower Wonder Trail.

Driving

– The 20 minute drive from I-5 (Ashland Exit 14) begins on Ashland Street as you head towards downtown Ashland and SOU. As you dead end into Siskiyou Blvd and The University you turn right and head toward Ashland. Drive all the way through downtown (watch out for pedestrians, deer, and the 20 mph speed limit) and at the end of town take the sweeping left turn as though you were going back the other way on Lithia Way however!… once you finish the U turn immediately turn right onto Granite Street.
You now have 2 miles above Lithia Park and at the end of the park you will pass the ol’ swimmin’ hole on your left. The road curves around to the left but you will continue forwards. Get up towards the end of the parallel parking spots on your left and pull in.

Parking

– Any spot to your left will do once you pass the swimming hole but the trailhead is at the top so, don’t be a chump. Be a top-dogger.

The Ride

– From the top of the parking area across the road you will see the trailhead sign for the Wonder Trail. That is your trail. Mountain bikes are allowed uphill only here. Hopefully they’ll have more information on the sign one day. So uphill you go from here on a single track with a number of switchbacks.
At about 1/2 mile you will reach the Lower Wasabi connector. You can take that to the left and quickly connect with the new (2023) Wasabi trail and ride the big berms for 1/2 mile down to the 2060 fire road. Ride down another 200 yards, turn left onto the Wonder trailhead, and do it again.
Or – continue past this Lower Wasabi connector and pedal up more switchbacks to the top of the new (2023) Wasabi trail and… peel down from this Wonder Trail onto the mountain bike only Wasabi Trail. 3/4 mile of intermediate bermy downhill mountain bike trail that is fast and sandy.
